The Measured Dog Mechanism

Comparison of effect: how three types of digestive formula behave over four months
Based on 225 customer surveys*

One stage won't do it. Real gut support runs on two clocks

Most gut supplements either help him digest the meal in front of him or try to rebuild his flora over months.

Measured Dog is engineered to do both.

Every ingredient is measured to perform one of two jobs on two different clocks - so something changes in the first days, and the result you actually bought for him arrives in the second stage.

Stage one · the first 10 days

Easy Digestion Formula™

Get more out of the dinner he is already eating.

The first step is the meal itself. That's why we combine Amylase, Lipase and L-Glutamine to break down starch and fat and feed the gut wall. How fast? Nothing has to colonize first, so owners usually report firmer stools within the first 10 days.

Amylase • Lipase • L-Glutamine
Stage two · by day 90

Healthy Gut Complex™

Rebuild the flora living in his gut.

Breaking the meal down isn't enough. What lives in his gut has to be rebuilt, and fed. That's why we combine Inter Yeast S, Chicory Inulin and a live acid-stable culture of E. faecium. Deeper gut support builds over time, with results typically becoming noticeable around day 90.

E. faecium • Inter Yeast S • Chicory Inulin

A probiotic label that tells you nothing is not a probiotic label

Anyone can add a popular ingredient to a label. Very few brands tell you how much is actually inside.

At Measured Dog, every active ingredient is included at a precisely measured dose and disclosed on the label, never hidden inside proprietary blends. Because research isn't just about what works. It's about how much of each ingredient delivers noticeable results.

The amounts below represent the full daily serving for a 90 lbs dog. Smaller dogs receive proportionally adjusted servings based on body weight, ensuring every dog receives the right amount of each active ingredient.

Every Ingredient. Every Dose. Every Study.
Enterococcus faeciumLive culture, 4b1707 · Healthy Gut Complex™
3.6 billion CFU
Enterococcus faecium · Live culture, 4b1707

The live culture, arriving with the meal that also carries its food. The label's per-serving panel declares 1.2 billion CFU in one serving, and a 90 lb dog takes three of them - so 3.6 billion a day. This is the one strain in the jar with a randomised, double-blinded, placebo-controlled trial run on the exact strain we use: owners reported fewer days of loose stools on the diet containing it.

Lipase · Aspergillus oryzae

Amylase · Aspergillus oryzae

Declared the way enzymes are actually measured - in activity units, not milligrams. Amylase breaks starch down in the bowl he is eating from right now. Dogs are not equal here: how much amylase a dog makes on his own depends on how many copies of the AMY2B gene he inherited.

L-Glutamine · Free amino acid

The preferred fuel of the cells lining the intestine. It is what the wall itself runs on.

Chicory InulinFrom chicory root · Healthy Gut Complex™
900 mg
Chicory Inulin · From chicory root

The prebiotic. Food for the bacteria already living in him and for the ones arriving in the same measure. A probiotic without a prebiotic is a delivery with nowhere to live.

Inter Yeast SBrewer's yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae · Healthy Gut Complex™
1,740 mg
Inter Yeast S · Brewer's yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae

Half the formula by mass, and the largest single active. The yeast is inactivated, which is what makes it a postbiotic rather than a second live culture: you are getting the compounds yeast produces, delivered ready-made. It is also the one part of the formula that does not depend on anything surviving the stomach.

„My dog had been dealing with digestive problems for a while, especially loose, slimy stools and stomach discomfort. He also tends to have issues with his ears, which seem to flare up when his stomach is off. I decided to try Measured Dog Gut and honestly wasn't sure what to expect. After a few weeks, I started noticing a real difference. His bowel movements became much more normal and regular, and he seemed a lot more comfortable overall. His ears have also been looking much better. We've been using it for almost two months now, and I'm really happy with the results. The vet told me it was yeast in his ears. Before, they would get really red and have this brown stuff inside them, and honestly they smelled pretty bad. He was scratching them all the time and shaking his head a lot too. Now they're way less red and much cleaner inside. I hardly see the brown gunk anymore and he's not messing with his ears nearly as much. They just look normal again."

„Four months ago, my dog was constantly scratching and chewing her paws - they were red, raw, and her white fur was stained pink. She would scratch all night long, and none of us were getting any sleep. After seeing your ad, I decided to try the probiotics, and she loved them from day one. Now there's no more itching, no more red paws, and no more sleepless nights. She sleeps like a baby, she's happy again, and I'll absolutely keep using them as long as they keep helping her."

„Since starting Bella on the gut health probiotics, her bowel movements, her attitude, and even the brightness in her eyes are 100% better than before. I've learned through trial and error that Cocker Spaniels can have really sensitive stomachs, and Bella is definitely one of them. This has been such a good investment for both me and my dog. She seems happier, healthier, and much more comfortable. I'm so glad we decided to give them a try."

„My lab started having absolutely terrible gas when she was around 2. We switched her food and that helped a little, but it never really went away. When she was 4, I decided to add Measured Dog Gut to her food every day. I honestly noticed a pretty big difference. The gas got less and less, and now she's 5 and we basically don't have the problem anymore. Such a simple thing to add to her routine and it's made a huge difference for us."

Why this is a powder and not another chew

When we developed Measured Dog, we had a choice. We could make another soft chew like everyone else, or we could choose the format that allowed us to build the best formula possible.

We chose the formula.

Unlike soft chews, a powder doesn't require extra ingredients to create its texture or consistency. That means we can dedicate 97.5% of the formula to active ingredients, the ingredients that actually do the work.

97.5% Active Ingredients

The less space we dedicate to manufacturing ingredients, the more space we have for ingredients that matter. It's a simple decision, but one that makes a big difference in the quality of the final formula.

Every Ingredient Has A Purpose

We believe every ingredient should earn its place. If an ingredient doesn't contribute to your dog's digestion, it doesn't belong in the formula. Nothing is added simply to hold a chew together or improve its texture.

97.6% Acceptance Rate

Of course, none of this matters if your dog won't eat it. That's why we made sure the formula mixes easily into regular food. In our palatability testing, 97.6% of dogs accepted Measured Dog when it was mixed with their normal meal, making it just as easy to use every day as it is effective.

Compare what actually matters

Most dog probiotics look similar.

The real difference isn't what's written on the front of the label.

It's how the formula is built.

Measured Results™

Every claim we make should be measurable.

The two stages do not arrive together, and pretending otherwise is how supplements lose people in week two. This is the order things actually happen in.

Why veterinarians recommend it

Dr. Anna Smith, DVM
„Most dog probiotics give me a strain and a CFU count. Neither tells me whether anything arrives with food for it to eat. This one prints the fibre and the glutamine next to the culture, and that is the part that decides whether the culture matters at all."

Dr. Marcus Hale, DVM
„Owners judge a gut supplement on stool in week one and stop it long before the lining has had time to change. Separating what acts on today's meal from what rebuilds over ninety days makes it much easier to keep a dog on it."

Dr. Priya Raman, DVM, MS
„Digestive enzymes act on the food in front of the dog, so nothing has to colonise first for them to work. That is a genuinely different mechanism from a probiotic, and most labels in this aisle blur the two."

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from the probiotic I already give him?
Most dog probiotics are a live culture and nothing else. A culture arrives, finds a gut wall it cannot settle on and no fibre to eat, and leaves. We put the culture in with the enzymes that break down the current meal, the prebiotic fibre that feeds the bacteria, and the L-glutamine that the cells lining his intestine actually run on. Six actives, every one printed in mg.
How much do I give him?
One level 1.17 g measure per 35 lb of body weight, once a day, on his food. Under 35 lb that is one measure, 35 to 69 lb two, 70 lb and up three. One measure size, three bands, whole numbers only - nothing to work out at the bowl.
How quickly will I see something?
Stool consistency is usually the first change, and owners often report it inside the first week - that is the enzyme and live-culture part working on the meal in front of him. The gut lining part is a weeks story, not a days story, and no supplement changes that.
Why powder and not a chew?
Because a chew has to hold its shape, and holding a shape takes glycerin, binders and oils. In this jar 97.5% of every measure is active. Enzymes and live cultures are also the two things you least want sitting inside a soft, moist, sugary matrix on a warm shelf.
My dog is a picky eater. Will he eat it?
It is designed to be mixed straight into his food, and the formula carries duck liver as a palatant - that is the 30 mg that is not active ingredient.
Can I give it with his usual food and other supplements?
Yes, and it is meant to go on food rather than into an empty stomach. If he is on medication, ask your vet first and tell them it contains a live Enterococcus faecium culture, digestive enzymes, inulin and L-glutamine.
Is it safe for a puppy?
Ask your vet for a dog under 12 weeks. Beyond that the dose follows body weight like it does for an adult, and it changes as he grows - update his weight in your account and the next delivery is right.
He is on antibiotics. Should I wait?
Ask your vet about timing. Antibiotics and live cultures given at the same hour work against each other, so the usual advice is to separate them - but that is a conversation for the person treating him, not for a product page.
How long does a jar last?
A 70 g jar holds 60 level 1.17 g measures. At one measure a day that is 60 days, at two 30, at three 20. That is why the plan ships by his size instead of a flat monthly box.
How many CFU does it have? Other brands say billions.
The label declares 1.2 billion CFU in a serving, so a dog of 70 lb and up gets 3.6 billion a day. That is the same range as the chew tubs that print a CFU count on the front. The difference is what arrives with it: 97.5% of every measure is inactivated yeast, prebiotic fibre, L-glutamine and enzymes, so the culture turns up alongside the fibre it feeds on and a gut wall that is being fed at the same time. On its own, a CFU count only tells you how many bacteria went into the jar - not how many find anything to live on once they get there.
